Local, Organic, and Gourmet Food at Deep Creek Lake
My husband and I have a bit of a soft spot for really great groceries and local organic restaurants! I've been coming to Deep Creek Lake since I was a kid, and it's been awesome to see the food scene get better and better over the years. While the options might not be endless for those of us who appreciate the finer things, they're definitely here! So, I wanted to share our go-to spots for grocery shopping and dining out whenever we're enjoying beautiful Deep Creek Lake.
I have to tell you that it is disappointing to see tiny produce departments and a lot of processed foods at the grocery stores here so drive around, explore and check out these local shops to build yourselves a unique dinner!
I’m just going to list out where we shop and include what they offer in no particular order.
Thursdays & Fridays 9am–6pm
Saturdays 9am-1pm
Fresh baked bread and pastries using locally sourced ingredients (WVA, MD, PA, ETC.) The Deep Creek Sourdough, Chocolate Fig Loaf, Bagels, and Cinnamon Rolls are our favorite. You can also find unique pantry items here like tinned fish, broth, dry pasta, butter, eggs, condiments, dressings, and their breads frozen to take home.

Artisan Cheeses (they specialize in goat cheese varieties), Fine/local Wines, Gourmet Pantry Items (pasta sauces, dried pasta, tinned fish, crackers, jams, chips, tea, coffee, dressings, condiments, vinegars, oils, and spices) You can also find a small assortment of local frozen meats, fresh eggs, butter and sometimes dips like hummus. They also have a small stock of Wild Embers bread frozen although it isn’t always available. They also have a little cafe with amazing sandwiches that we highly recommend!! The Cab is our favorite sandwich.

Shop & Save
Located in: Market Square Shopping Center
Address: 24586 Garrett Hwy, McHenry, MD 21541
This is the Shop & Save location that you’ll want to go to if you’re looking for something organic, or out of the ordinary. They have a small gourmet section that has a lot of different cheeses, gluten free options, and organic snacks and condiments. Nothing here is really that special, it is probably more expensive than you’d pay for it back home but if you prefer less processed condiments and snacks you can find them here. The meat here however isn’t local or even recognizable by brand really so I would try to get your meat from wildom if you’re really particular about that.
Walmart
Walmart is improving their produce section and their organic offerings. So if you need organic produce, olive oil, organic peanut butter, green juice, olipop, Spindrift, things like that you can find at Walmart. The meat here is in the same boat as the Shop & Save meat.

Reservations Strongly Suggested
Great cocktails and meals here, we’ve been coming for years and love it. I do agree with the reservation recommendation! I recommend the duck breast and the pumpkin spiced mule! The last time i went the mule had a heavy pour so watch yourself.
