About The Little Fox Den
The story of The Little Fox Den isn’t about real estate, it isn’t about making a good investment, or a way to pay for a personal vacation home. It’s about a ten year dream in the making.
I walked through a condo on Jeffrey Lane for the first time ten years ago. I was 24 years old and at the time buying the condo was a pipe dream. The pine lined lofted ceilings and spiral staircase were something that I swore I would get my hands on one day.
In the years that I didn’t own the condo I traveled to different luxury inns, bed and breakfasts, airbnbs, vacation properties, and hotels. I learned what I did and didn’t like and what I had to offer to my future guests. I set very high standards for myself and my future property. I even stayed in The Fox Den when it was a vacation rental under a different name and ownership. I read the reviews about it and I learned what people did and didn’t like.
Ten years and many episodes of Maine Cabin Masters and This Old House later I became the happy owner of my little chalet. For 6 months I took it all in. I slept here, cooked here, I listened to the sounds and I observed the way the sun rose and set over the lake. I wanted to know this little cabin inside and out. I wanted to personally oil and condition the wood. I wanted the house to tell me what it hadn’t gotten in decades, what it needed from me.
What I learned was it needed love, it needed to be appreciated and cared for. So I found as many problems as I possibly could and I repaired them. If something couldn’t be saved I replaced it, and if it could be I restored it. I took what The Den needed from me and I combined those things with what guests in its previous reviews said they wanted from it. And that leads us to where we are today.
The Fox Den wants to be enjoyed and I want other people to enjoy it. Not for money or clout but for the house and for you.
