Frequently Asked Questions

When do we receive check-in information?

I send out the door code and property guide 48 hours before check in. The property guide is through touch stay and you can download a copy incase you lose reception, it includes everything you need to know about the house and our local recommendations. I highly recommend you read over the property guide before you start traveling. Please pay close attention to the check-out instructions. I don’t ask for much but what I do ask for is there for safety purposes like preventing baseboard heat fires.

Can We Bring Our Boat?

Dock slip rentals are available through High Mountain Sports. You pay per 24hr period 3pm-3pm the following day. You must find arrangements for your trailer through Double G RV Park in McHenry, they offer trailer parking for the week - 301-387-5481. The neighborhood does not allow overnight trailer parking or over night boat parking. We recommend using Deep Creek Lake State Parks ramp to enter the water. Docks with HMS are no longer available after October 16th and the lake is officially closed to water crafts as of November 1st.

How close are you to Wisp?

Wisp is a 9min drive from The Fox Den. You can purchase lift tickets and find information on other activities like tubing and zip lining here.

How close are you to Deep Creek Lake State Park?

Deep Creek Lake State Park is a 9min drive from The Fox Den. Fees are: Day-use: $3 per Maryland resident, $5 per non-Maryland resident (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day), $3 per Maryland vehicle & $5 per non-Maryland vehicle the rest of the year.

Where exactly are you located?

We’re located directly across from Deep Creek Lake off of Garrett Hwy (219), behind Brenda’s Pizzeria and Traders Coffee House. We have year round lake and mountain views. However be advised because of our central location we do experience some road noise from the deck, hammock, and sometimes living room. It doesn’t usually bother people and we have supplied sound machines in the bedrooms, however in the back bedroom it’s very quiet.

We want to stay longer than 3 nights, can we?

If you have specific dates in mind that you’re interested in and don’t see them available on the calendar please message me on Airbnb and I can let you know if they’re available! I am more than happy to open the calendar for weekday stays if you’re interested!

Is your property safe for children?

We ask that parents use their best judgement here. We do not personally have children so we might not be in the same mindset as a parent when outfitting the property. At this time we don’t have cribs or high chairs, we hope to in the future. There are 14 steps leading to the front door and a gate and there is a spiral staircase inside the house. The spiral staircase has 13” spaces between the balusters and we haven’t really figured out a good way to block it with a gate yet. We do however have children’s cups and plates as well as puzzles and wilderness themed books.

What’s with the cleaning fee?

In full transparency, the cost of cleaners in Deep Creek Lake shocked me. And I live in Northern Virginia, where everything is expensive, but in DCL I received quotes from 100-250 dollars per cleaning. In a perfect world I’d clean the condo myself every week but unfortunately being 3 hours away that just wasn’t sustainable. Hence the cleaning fee. As of 2023 we have a 130 dollar cleaning fee. Which isn’t even the full cost of a cleaning and linens.

I also want to point out how important cleanliness is! Especially in a post covid world, germs are really gross. I have stayed at many vacation rentals in DCL and they haven’t all been as clean as I’d like. At The Fox Den our cleaners wash everything you use, every single time. Our cleaners are also responsible for making sure each guest receives their toiletries, snacks, coffee & creamers, disposable coffee cups (hot & iced), and cold water in the fridge. So with more amenities comes a higher cost. We fully believe that they’re worth every penny and play an integral roll in the experience we provide at DCL! We love being able to support another local small business while providing our guests with the cleanest and most comfortable stay possible!

Why Can’t we bring our dog if you have dogs?

Unfortunately in January of 2023 the HOA for Roman Ridge (the neighborhood the condo is located in) implemented a new rule that states visitors to Roman Ridge were not permitted to bring pets of any kind. As owners we’re allowed to bring our dogs but unfortunately our renters and friends can not. We weren’t aware of this rule until after we were under contract and hope that it does not stick for long. If visitors bring dogs and it's reported by someone there is a two hundred dollar fine this is a fine by the HOA not us personally.

If you have a service dog please let me know they are coming so I can inform the HOA of your visit. We do not want or need any credentials and there are no extra fees, cleaning or otherwise for service dogs. We ask that other dog owners not abuse the privilege given to service dogs and their handlers.

Does your property have cameras?

We have one camera primarily to help people that may have found themselves at the wrong unit when renting a property.

Are there bears?

Yes! We have bears, racoons, opossums, deer, groundhogs, and chipmunks that frequent the neighborhood. Please Please do not leave food in your car or outside. Please do not try to interact or pet the wildlife either. When disposing of trash please make sure you close and lock the trash door, they can open them if they’re not locked. If the trashcan is full try to find one that isn’t. There are many trashcans in the neighborhood and people would much rather you use their trash can than leave trash out that the animals can get into.
